Sarah: Oh no! Someone has been changing my marks. What a horrible place this is. It's not fair!
Guard 1: That's right! It's not fair.
(Sarah turns around and sees that the dead end now has two doors. Each door is guarded. There are two guards for each door. Basically two of them are upside down. They are guards 2 & 4, and guards 1 & 3 are the guards standing correctly.)
Guard 2: That's only half of it.
Sarah: This was a dead end a minute ago.
Guard 4: No, that's the dead end behind you.
(Sarah turns to look and sure enough it is now a dead end behind her.)
Sarah: It keeps changing! What am I supposed to do?
Guard 2: Try one of these doors.
Guard 4: One of them leads to the castle at the center of the Labyrinth, and the other one leads toÂ…
Guard 1: Ba ba ba bum!
Guard 2: Â…certain death!
Sarah: Which one is which?
Guard 2: We can't tell you.
Sarah: Why not?
Guard 2: Uh, I uhÂ…We don't know.
Guard 4: But they do. (looks up at the other half of the guard)
Sarah: Oh. Then I'll ask them.
Guard 3: Uh, you can't ask usÂ….you can only ask one of us.
Guard 1: It's in the rules. And you should know that one of us always tells the truth, and one of us always lies. That's a rule too, he (pointing at Guard 3) always lies.
Guard 3: I do not! I tell the truth!
Guard 1: Oh what a lie!
Guard 2: (Laughs)
Guard 3: He's the liar.
Sarah: (walks over to Guard 3) All right. Answer yes or no. Would he (pointing at Guard 1) tell me that this door leads to the castle?
Guard 3: UhÂ…(to Guard 4) What do you think? Really? (to Sarah) Yes.
Sarah: Then the other door leads to the castle and this door leads to certain death.
Guard 3: How do you know? He could be telling the truth.
Sarah: But then you wouldn't be. So if you said yes, the answer is no.
Guard 3: But, I could be telling the truth.
Sarah: Then he would be lying. So if you told me that he said yes, the answer would still be no.
Guard 3: Is that right?
Guard 1: I don't know. I've never understood it.
Sarah: No, it's right. I've figured it out.
