folgendes habe ich in einem Thread gefunden. Diese Lösung funktionierte bei meinem kumpel (hatt au das problem)ohne Probleme.
I had this same problem when I tried the demo and again when I picked up the retail version of the game. Since I was unaware of the "safe mode" setting (if it even existed in the demo), I dug around a big in the graphics config files until I figured out how to "fix" it.
Here's what I did:
I run my desktop at 1024x768x32, and I play my games at the same resolution. AOM seemed to default to 800x600x16, and whenever it tried to switch modes to 1024x768x32 it would screw up.
So, knowing that, I set my desktop resolution to match the AOM default (800x600x16), and started AOM. That time it worked perfectly.
Then I went into the video options for AOM and set the resolution to 1024x768x32. Save the changes if needed, and then exit the game.
Set the desktop resolution back to normal (in my case, 1024x768x32), restart AOM. It should now work perfectly because it doesn't have to switch modes, which is what was causing it to screw up.
In short, if you get the initialization failed message:
1. Set desktop resolution to 800x600 16 bit color (AOM default)
2. Start AOM, change the video settings in AOM to match your normal desktop resolution and color depth.
3. Exit AOM, reset your desktop to its normal settings.
4. Play AOM. It should now work fine.
kannst es ja mal ausprobieren, ansonsten ein fach mal googlen da gibt es noch zig andere vorschläge.
